It's Official. It's Time for Radiant (Wedding Ready) Skin

March 2, 2023

Your Wedding Day…It's exciting and a little overwhelming. You’re making your lists and checking all the boxes to make sure your special day is perfect and that includes looking the most radiant and elegant version of yourself. That's where Desjarlais Dermatology & Aesthetic Center comes in.

We help you have the best skin of your life, for the biggest day of your life. You'll begin your skincare journey with a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Desjarlais. It’s important to evaluate what you want out of your skin care. Whether you’re looking to reduce acne, tackle melasma shrink pore size or improve the texture of your skin, it’s important to set specific goals. Our team will perform a state-of-the-art skin analysis by taking in-depth photos of your skin, giving them insight as to what is happening on the surface of your skin as well as underneath.

With that information and your timeline, you can choose from one of the Desjarlais Bridal Packages or create a customized treatment plan with the Fairytale Bride package. However, here is some information to help give you an idea of how you can map out your regimen in preparation for your special day:

12 Months in Advance

Starting a year in advance allows for a well-rounded skincare plan to set in motion as well as give your skin time to see how it’s responding to treatments. (Acne and acne scars are something that doesn’t improve overnight and requires a longer journey to see desired results.) One common treatment we recommend is the Total Skin Solution package, which includes a combination of a laser treatment and radio frequency microneedling. This state-of-the-art skincare treatment can tighten skin to smooth texture (and even address hyperpigmentation) while it wakes up your natural collagen and elasticity for a more radiant and youthful glow.

6 Months in Advance

Jumping into a laser treatment to address acne, texture or pigmentation without fixing the root of the problem can be a waste of time and money. Make sure your dermatologist is discussing medical grade skincare products or prescriptions including retinoids.

Other great products include hyaluronic acid. HA is already naturally occurring in the body, attracting and holding onto moisture in the skin cells, which allows skin to feel more hydrated and plump.

4-6 Months in Advance

Addressing sun-spots and pigmentation before your big day is quite popular and can be done in 3-4 treatments within 4-6 months. Depending on your skin type and budget, there are three different devices to address these concerns.

If you’re looking to simply keep your skin glowing with hydration and exfoliation, this is a great time to begin monthly silkpeels.

Tips from the Professionals: After this point, don’t introduce anything new to your skincare routine, in order to avoid your skin from reacting negatively.

1 Month in Advance

One month before your wedding day is the key time to focus on anti-wrinkle injectables. While Botox and other neurotoxins are known for addressing fine lines and wrinkles, they can also be used for other cosmetic alternations:

  • To help relax muscles in the face
  • To make pores appear smaller
  • Create the appearance of a lifted brow

If nothing else, and you just want to keep it simple, make sure you’re executing a daily skincare routine. Here is our recommendation on what to do and we have wonderful medical grade skincare products to reinforce the benefit:

  • Gentle cleanser both morning and night
  • Depending on your skin concerns you can exfoliate up to two times a week
  • Light moisturizer both morning and night
  • Retinol to be applied in the evening

1 Week in Advance

One week before your wedding is an ideal time to receive your final silkpeel in preparation for makeup with moisturized and firm skin.

Tips from the Professionals: Use water-based skin care rather than oil or silicone-heavy products for prime makeup application.

Throughout the process, you will begin to see amazing changes in your skin. Our Brides are always happy they made the investment in themselves during the stressful process of wedding planning. With each visit, you will feel more confident leading up to your big day, with results that last well past the honeymoon.

There’s something about summer that makes everyone want the same thing: clear, event glowing skin – without makeup. Less coverage. Less layering. Less time getting ready. But for many people, foundation has become a daily necessity to cover redness, breakouts, pigmentation, or uneven texture. Here’s the truth: you shouldn’t have to rely on makeup to feel confident in your skin. The goal isn’t better foundation – its’ better skin.

One of the most common things we hear this time of year is: “I thought I had to wait until fall for laser treatments.” The truth? You don’t have to put your skin goals on hold just because the sun is out. While summer does require a more strategic approach, many cosmetic laser treatments can still be performed safely—and effectively—when done correctly and with the right guidance.

If there’s one category redefining modern aesthetics, it’s energy-based devices—specifically laser and radiofrequency (RF) treatments. Once considered advanced or niche, these technologies have quickly become some of the most in-demand services in dermatology and medspa settings. Why? Because today’s patients want results that are noticeable, natural, and require little to no downtime—especially as they head into summer events, weddings, vacations, and time in the sun. The new standard isn’t surgery. It’s strategic, non-invasive skin transformation.

Melasma is a chronic pigmentation condition that causes symmetrical patches of brown or gray-brown discoloration, most commonly on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip, and jawline. While many people associate melasma flare-ups with summer sun exposure, winter is a critical — and often overlooked — season for managing it effectively. In fact, winter can be one of the best times to get melasma under control when approached correctly.
