Botox

BOTOX® & Other Cosmetic Injectable Treatments

Small wrinkles and lines begin to appear around our face after years and years of our facial muscles contracting with our everyday movements. Think: smiling and laughing. These lines are a normal part of the aging process but that doesn’t mean you have to live with them.

BOTOX Cosmetic

BOTOX Cosmetic is FDA-approved to treat the frown lines between the eyebrows and the ‘crow’s feet’ lines (around the outer corner of the eyes). There is a reason why BOTOX Cosmetic is one of the most well-known and popular treatments for men and women as we age — it works!

What is BOTOX Cosmetic?
BOTOX Cosmetic is derived from tiny amounts of a highly purified, natural protein that has proven to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. When Dr. Desjarlais strategically administers Botox during a treatment, he is targeting specific muscles under the surface of the skin. Once injected, Botox works to temporarily reduce the muscle activity in those areas, smoothing out the skin’s surface and reducing the appearance of fine lines or wrinkles.

What Happens During My Treatment?
If this is your first time visiting our office for a BOTOX Cosmetic appointment, you will meet with Dr. Desjarlais for a consultation regarding the treatment. After your goals have been discussed Dr. Desjarlais will administer the BOTOX in small injections to the targeted areas. The treatment itself lasts no more than ten minutes. Most patients don’t report any pain with this treatment but describe it as a quick sting (similar to an insect bite).

BOTOX Recovery and Results
As you leave the office after your treatment, redness around the injected area is common and generally subsides within an hour. Depending on the patient, bruising is possible within the days following your treatment. To reduce the risk for bruising, ask Dr. Desjarlais about taking ibuprofen or aspirin the day of treatment.

Some patients report an immediate result after their BOTOX Cosmetic, but full results are seen up to 14 days after treatment. Most patients experience results that last up to 4 months.

Dysport®

One of the first places wrinkles begin to appear on our face is in between the eyebrows. Luckily, 25 years of clinical research worldwide has brought us treatments like Dysport‎ to smooth the appearance of those lines and still look natural everywhere else.

What is Dysport?
Dysport is a prescription injection for the temporary improvement in the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. One injection into each of 5 points between and above the eyebrows temporarily prevents muscle contractions that cause frown lines, leaving the rest of your face to move naturally.

What Happens During My Treatment?
If this is your first time visiting our office for Dysport, you will begin by meeting with Dr. Desjarlais for a consultation regarding the treatment. After your goals have been discussed, Dr. Desjarlais will administer the Dysport in small injections to the target areas. The treatment itself should last no more than ten minutes. Most patients don’t report any pain with this treatment but describe it as a quick sting (similar to an insect bite).

Dysport Recovery and Results
There is no downtime expected after a Dysport treatment. You can leave the office and go about your day! Redness around the treatment area is common but generally subsides within an hour. Some patients report a minor headache within the days following treatment that can be controlled with over the counter medications.

Full results from a Dysport treatment are apparent within 10-14 days after treatment, with results that last up to 4 months.

Jeuveau®

Ready for a modern-made tox? #NEWTOX Thanks to FDA approval, those lines between your brows can be optional with Jeuveau®. Jeuveau® stops your nerves from telling your facial muscles to flex, temporarily smoothing moderate to severe lines between the brows.

What is Jeuveau®?
Jeuveau® is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used in adults for a short period of time (temporary) to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines).

What Happens During My Treatment?
If this is your first time visiting our office for Jeuveau®, you will begin by meeting with Dr. Desjarlais for a consultation regarding the treatment. After your goals have been discussed, Dr. Desjarlais will administer the Jeuveau® in small injections to the target areas. The treatment itself should last no more than ten minutes. Most patients don’t report any pain with this treatment but describe it as a quick sting (similar to an insect bite).

Jeuveau® Recovery and Results
Localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, erythema, and/or bleeding/bruising may be associated with the injection. For specific instructions on what to do before and after your injection, please follow the instructions as given to you by your doctor or healthcare provider.

In clinical trials, Jeuveau® was shown to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines within 14 days, with some results lasting 3-5 months.

KYBELLA®

Until recently, in order to treat submental fullness (under the chin fat, aka ‘double chin’) the most successful option for patients was a liposuction procedure. Even with advances in minimally invasive fat removal options, a local anesthesia was still utilized, leaving the patient with a healing and recovery period. Not anymore!

What is KYBELLA?
KYBELLA is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells under the chin. The active ingredient in KYBELLA is a synthetic version of a naturally occurring molecule in the body, deoxycholic acid. When injected into the body, KYBELLA destroys the fat cells beneath the chin, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness of the area.

What Happens During My Treatment?
At your first meeting with Dr. Desjarlais, he will need to determine if you are a candidate for KYBELLA. Next, we will develop a treatment plan customized to your body and your aesthetic goals. KYBELLA is administered through small injections under the chin over a period of several months, with each appointment lasting 15-20 minutes. The number of injections and amount of KYBELLA used depends on the individual patient.

KYBELLA Results and Recovery
There is no downtime associated with a KYBELLA treatment. Redness and swelling around the injection site is common and generally subsides shortly after leaving the office. Some patients may experience bruising and/or numbness under the chin.

What is most exciting about the use of KYBELLA under the chin, is the results. When injected, KYBELLA destroys the fat cells. This means those cells can no longer store or accumulate fat. Once your treatment plan has been completed and you are satisfied with your results, no further treatment is expected!

Restylane®

As we age, a combination of natural factors (genetics) and external factors (sun exposure, smoking, pollution, etc.) work to decrease the hyaluronic acid in our skin, which causes the loss of elasticity and fullness. To combat those signs of aging, Restylane and the Restylane family of products work to ‘fill’ the lost volume in the skin that causes lines and wrinkles.

What is Restylane?
Restylane is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid (HA) that was created to mimic your body’s own naturally produced substance. Compared to the natural HA already in your body, the formulation in Restylane has been modified slightly to last longer in the body.

Restylane is FDA approved to visibly correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds around the lower face including the nasolabial folds (the lines running from your nose to the corners of your mouth, also known as ‘laugh lines’), the corners of the mouth, and the marionette lines (the area that extends downward from the corners of the mouth to the jawline).

What Happens During My Treatment?
If you are visiting our office for your first Restylane treatment, you will meet with Dr. Desjarlais for a quick consultation to determine if you are a good candidate. If it is determined that Restylane is right for you, Dr. Desjarlais will create a customized treatment plan based on your aesthetic goals. The treatment itself lasts less than 15 minutes in which Dr. Desjarlais injects the product into your skin in small amounts around the treatment area.

Restylane Results and Recovery
There is no downtime after your Restylane treatment. You can leave the office and continue about your day. Some patients may experience minimal redness around the treatment area immediately following. This generally subsides within an hour. In the days following your Restylane appointment, you may see some bruising and tenderness around the treated area(s) as well as a minor headache.

Restylane Lyft

As we age, the natural fat that surrounds the cheeks begins to deteriorate, leaving us with a less youthful midface. Sagging skin, prominent wrinkles and a reduction of volume all work together in aging our face. Through nonsurgical injections, Restylane Lyft is specifically designed to add fullness to the cheeks and midface area, which can result in a more natural-looking, youthful appearance.

What is Restylane Lyft?
Restylane Lyft is the first and only FDA-approved filler created to “lift” the cheeks by adding volume to the midface where it has been lost due to natural aging. Restylane Lyft is an injectable hyaluronic acid gel, which is composed of naturally occurring substances that exist in our skin to provide support and fullness. When injected Restylane Lyft can correct volume loss and soften wrinkles in the face.

Restylane Lyft can be administrated to the cheeks to add volume for a more ‘lifted’ look. It can also be used to smooth the nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the mouth) and reduce the hollowing out effect that sometimes comes with aging. Restylane Lyft specifically targets areas of the face that sag over time leaving you with a more defined, more youthful appearance, without surgery.

What Happens During My Treatment?
If you are visiting our office for your first Restylane Lyft treatment, you will first meet with Dr. Desjarlais to determine if you are a good candidate. The treatment itself lasts only about 15 minutes. Lidocaine (a numbing agent) is formulated into the product, meaning maximum comfort for you.

Restylane Lyft Results and Recovery
Full correction of the treated areas can be achieved in one office visit with results lasting 9-12 months on average. There is no downtime associated with Restylane Lyft injections. Some patients may experience common side effects such as minimal redness and bruising around the treated areas as well as a minor headache and tenderness.

Restylane Silk

All areas of our face can show the signs of aging, including our lips. Thinning of the lips and small wrinkles around the lips edge are common as we get older. That is why Dr. Desjarlais is proud to be offering the first and only FDA-approved product specifically designed for lip enhancement and the smoothing of wrinkles around the mouth.

What is Restylane Silk?
Restylane Silk is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid used to temporarily add volume, resulting in a fresher, more youthful appearance. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar that is naturally present in your skin, reducing the risk of an allergic reaction.

Restylane Silk’s formation is made of smaller, smoother particles than those used in other Restylane products. This along with an ultrafine needle designed for improved accuracy, helps give you softer, more precise results.

What Happens During My Treatment?
During a short consultation with Dr. Desjarlais, he will determine if you are an ideal candidate for Restylane Silk. Restylane Silk was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for lip enhancement and the treatment of wrinkles and lines around the mouth in people over the age of 21. If you are experiencing loss of lip volume or shape and/or ‘barcode’ lines around the edge of your upper lip, Restylane Silk may be the right treatment for you.

The treatment itself takes less than 15 minutes. Some patients may choose to use an anesthetic cream for added comfort.

Bruising around the injection site can occur but can easily be covered my makeup. In clinical studies, results from Restylane Silk lasted 6 months or longer.
